This is one of the prettiest smoothies that I have ever made, and it is absolutely delicious!!
It is better than ice cream. Too, the maca root, and the yogurt and mango, etc, have astounding health benefits for your body. Maca root is wonderful for your hormones; it also balances your blood sugar levels, making it lovely for helping diabetics, and it helps you have sustained energy and focus and elevates your mood. It also has a great deal of protein and helps your memory retention and your athletic stamina and muscle recovery, so it is ideal as a pre-workout drink.
Also, mangoes fight cancer, have high levels of vitamin C, protect your eyesight, and improve your digestion, among many other things, and are excellent for your health.
(For more information on the health benefits of maca, see Dr. Axe’s website.)
This is so easy to prepare, you will want to make one every morning. Smile.
Mango smoothie with maca and greek yogurt
1 frozen banana
2 mangoes, sliced and peeled (I used one green and one ripe mango, but you can adjust your sweeteners to taste)
1 c. greek yogurt, plain unsweetened
1 c. crushed ice
3/4 c. maple syrup or honey (the honey tends to freeze to the bottom of the blender, so I prefer maple syrup)
1-2 T. maca powder (I used Pure Natural Miracles Raw Organic by Allianz)
1/2 c. purified water
1 t. vanilla extract
Simply puree these ingredients in the blender until smooth, and sweeten to taste. If it needs a little water in order to mix properly, add it, or if it needs to be thicker, add more ice and yogurt. You can also add other supplement powders, if you like, according to your personalized needs. I sometimes add a creatine powder or a protein powder to my smoothies, especially after I go running. Just remember that you probably don’t need more than 1-2 T. of each supplement, and you will probably have to add more honey or maple syrup to counteract the bitterness of some supplements. (Add cautiously at first; you can always add more, but it is hard to take it out once you put it in!!)
“On either side of the river stood a tree of life, producing twelve kinds of fruit and yielding a fresh crop for each month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be within the city, and His servants will worship Him.…” -Revelation 22:2b-3
